Marvel Studios and Comics writer Craig Kyle is bringing on the drones in a reboot of Blue Thunder.

Blue Thunder, a 1983 film about a police helicopter that's hijacked for evil purposes, will be updated by Kyle with a drone-centric plot for the 21st century. 50 Shades of Grey's Dana Brunetti will produce the film, which Columbia Pictures is overseeing.

The project is a big movie for Kyle, whose body of work has mainly been with Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios. He wrote a lengthy run on Marvel's "X-Force" before writing and producing several Marvel animated projects like Wolverine and the X-Men, Ultimate Avengers, and more. He is a main producer on Marvel Studios' Thor franchise, serving as producer on Thor and Thor: The Dark World. He will produce and co-write 2017's third Thor chapter, Thor: Ragnarok.

The original Blue Thunder, directed byJohn Badham and starring Roy Scheider, followed the pilot of a police helicopter nicknamed Blue Thunder. The helicopter was devised to counteract civil disobedience, but was overtaken by terrorists for nefarious means.

A projected release date was not announced, but stay tuned to ComicBook.com for more updates.
