Former The Amazing Spider-Man artist J. Scott Campbell is providing a series of interconnected, retailer-specific covers for a trio of upcoming books--including one that's not yet been announced and is still being listed as "Classified"--for New York City retailer Midtown Comics. The first two parts--Superior Spider-Man #31 and Amazing Spider-Man #1--present a pretty clear narrative as to what the third likely is: another Spider-Man book. ...but a "Classified" new Spider-Man-centric #1? Looks like it, as Midtown's U.K. retail partner Limited Edition Comix briefly claimed as much before altering the text earlier today when Bleeding Cool ran a piece connecting the dots. "Details to follow as this is a TOP SECRET Spider-man book and the last of the J Scott Campbell connecting covers from MIDTOWN COMICS in the USA," the site reportedly described the product on its presales page. The same description still stands, with the notable exception that "Spider-Man" has been removed. With the massive success of Superior Spider-Man, there's a question as to whether Marvel would want to cancel the title or find a way to publish it in conjunction with the relaunched Amazing. If Superior is indeed not long for this world, though, there are a number of other possible books that could fill a hole like this--Miles Morales and Miguel O'Hara, for instance, could get solo titles--or Peter Parker could get another title. It's not as though that's never happened before.
