Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was spotlighted heavily during this year's E3, though the most compelling aspect of it was probably going on behind the scenes.

According to a Kotaku report, a hacker might have been attempting to take the E3 demo during the show. The identity is believed to be a 17-year-old game developer who is known for hacking Mario Kart 8. He used a combination of home-brewed resources and a debugging tool known as TCP Gecko during his attempt to download the code, saying "The Wii U hacking community has tools and resources to grab the game over the network as it is being played."

While his story can't be proven, Kotaku has been able to somewhat verify parts of his story via his social media accounts and fellow hacker NWPlayer123, who has a stellar reputation in the community. Over the course of three days, and through numerous setbacks, he attempted to grab the demo.

"On Day 3 I...arrived at the convention center at 10:15 am, just 15 minutes after they opened the show floor, but by that time, they already have closed the line to play the demo as it was full."

As for why he took on this task in the first place? It was simple really. He wanted to play it before anyone else.

"It's an E3 demo and [there is] always unused content to see, not to mention it would be nice to play the game months early before its expected release. Even though the end result was negative, I still find it to be completely worth it because why not risk chances in life?"

Whether it actually happened or not, it's still interesting to see just what all goes into even attempting to grab a small demo from E3.
