The Amazing Spider-Man himself will join the festivities in New York City on New Year's Eve, riding the big ball in Times Square, where he'll appear before crowds and then release some footage from the forthcoming Sony Pictures film The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the New York Daily News reports.
It's worth noting that from a design point of view, the Daily News seems to be the inspiration for The Daily Bugle in this installment of the franchise, so bringing Spidey into the real world and doing so via that particular paper was a nice bit of synergy.
The movie will be in theaters on May 2, 2014, just in time for Free Comic Book Day.
Like most Marvel Comics movies, the story is set in Manhattan. Unlike most Marvel movies, it was filmed entirely on location in New York.
"There’s the sense of energy and excitement that you can only get in New York and we certainly felt that energy and excitement as we shot the entire film here,"director Marc Webb said. "The people of New York City truly embraced our production, and it’s a wonderful feeling to be returning to Times Square to ring in the New Year."
