The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies conquered the box office on Friday, Box Office Mojo reports.
With $16.6 million grossed on Friday, The final installment of the Peter Jackson trilogy will most likely gain $54 million by the end of the weekend. It would bring the film’s five-day total to $88 million, according to Variety.
Based on the J.R.R. Tolkien classic, The Hobbit, in the final conclusion, men, dwarves and elves must unite or fall to the dual threats of Sauron's Orcs and Smaug the dragon.
Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb came in second Friday with $5.6 million.
Annie earned the third spot Friday with $5.3 million.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 followed in fourth with $2.28 million.
With 2.27 million Exodus: Gods and Kings rounded out the top five on Friday.
