Forty years after its release, 20th Century Fox is bring The Omen back to the big screen in prequel form.

Antonio Campos, who is currently buzzing for his work on the Sundance film Chrstine, is in talks to helm the supernatural horror thriller which will be titled The First Omen. The film will be produced by David Goyer.

The original Omen starred Gregory Peck as an ambassador who starts to believe his 5-year-old boy may actually be the living embodiment of the Antichrist. It was directed by Richard Donner, who went on to take on films such as Superman, The Goonies, and Lethal Weapon.

Since the original Omen's release, two sequels and a series of novel followed. Fox remade the movie in 2006 with Liv Schreiber and Julia Stiles and a TV version of the series, starring The Walking Dead's Scott Wilson and run by Glen Mazzara, is currently airing on Fox.

The prequel was written by Ben Jacoby. A release date has not yet been revealed.
