Idris Elba to Play Shere KhanThe Independent

is reporting that Idris Elba will be voicing Shere Khan, the villainous tiger, in Disney's live-action The Jungle Book movie. Elba, known for his roles in Thor and Pacific Rim, is reported to be in final negotiations for the film, which is being written by Jon Favreau (Iron Man). The film will be a remake of Disney's animated The Jungle Book, from 1967, which is based on Rudyard Kipling's children's novel about a boy named Mowgli who is raise by the animals inhabiting an Indian jungle. Most of the animals in the film will be computer generaeted. Shere Khan is a tiger who enjoys the taste of human flesh, and watches Mowgli, waiting for an opportunity to strike. Disney is racing to get the film into production in time to beat the Warner Bros. adaptation of the book. The Jungle Book now resides in the public domain, allowing both companies to pursue their own adaptations independently.
