Well, Big Bang Theory has the answer ahead of the upcoming Season 9 premiere. (Spoilers ahead).
As Big Bang Theory‘s showrunner Steve Molaro confirmed, Penny and Leonard have officially said “I do.” The show’s longstanding couple will officially be husband and wife starting this fall. But don’t expect season 9 to be all roses for the newlyweds. Molaro explained that the nuptials are “really only the beginning of the story. As fun and as great as it is to see them get married, that’s only part of it.”
Molaro then teased that Penny and Leonard’s “Happily Ever After” will soon be interrupted by the woman Leonard once kissed on his North Sea expedition, who will return to tangle the knot they just tied. But regardless of the relationship’s growing pains, Molaro assures that the marriage was ultimately the right step for the duo.
“We’re nine years in and we want to keep things moving forward, as well as exciting and scary and fun,” Molaro explained to TV Line. “And I think this a great way to do it. Penny has had commitment issues for years and years now, especially when it comes to Leonard, and even she feels, ‘How much longer are we going to go back and forth on this? Let’s just jump in and hope for the best.”
