It has been a long time since we've heard anything new regarding a film adaptation of DC/Vertigo's Fables. Last we knew, Nikolaj Arcel ("The Royal Affair") had been hired in June of 2013 to direct it, but no further news has come down the pipeline, until now.

Comic Book Resources recently interviewed one of the film's producers, David Heyman, and he revealed that a Fables film is still very much in the works. Arcel is still attached to helm it. He actually worked on the first draft of the script and has now handed it off to screenwriter Jane Goldman to work on. "Hoping that it'll come in and we'll be able to move to the next stage," Heyman said. "All these things always take longer than you want. And "Fables" is not easy, by any means, but I think it'll be pretty great.

You'll recognize Goldman as a frequent collaborator with director Matthew Vaughn. They worked together on X-Men: First: First Class,  Kick-Ass, Stardust and the soon to be released Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Fables is an award-winning comic book series that was created by Bill Willingham. It is centered around beloved fairy tale characters that have been forced to leave their magical homeworlds and magically hidden neighborhood within Manhattan. These princes, princesses and talking animals are hiding from an evil conqueror only known as The Adversary. Now these fairy tale character have to learn to adapt to a modern world which is filled with issues of an adult nature.
