Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took to Facebook earlier today to provide fans with a first look at his character in the forthcoming Fast 8.
According to the caption that ran with the Facebook post, it sounds like this installment will be a game-changer for Hobbs, the character who first appeared in 2011’s Fast Five.

“When you strip a man of all he has. All that’s important to him. You force him to return to his roots.. and sometimes that’s a very dangerous and twisted place,” Johnson teased.
“If I was going to return for another Fast & Furious I wanted to come in and disrupt the franchise in a cool way that got fans fired up and their blood pumping to see a new version of Hobbs and his “Daddy’s gotta go to work” mentality and set the table in a cool way for where the character goes in the future,” the star added.
He teased the notion of either a spinoff movie, more sequels, or even just “retirement” as “Hobbs just gets on his motorcycle and rides off into the sunset never to be seen again,” so it seems while there’s been plenty of talk at the studio level about the future of the franchise, Johnson himself is playing it more or less by ear.
Johnson stars in the sequel alongside Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, Kurt Russell, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Eva Mendes, and more. F. Gary Gray will direct. Fast 8 is expected in U.S. cinemas in April 2017, and is in its second week of production now.
