New Netflix Original Series You Should Watch in 2017
Netflix has become a hub of must-see original programming, in addition to its many second-run TV [...]
Santa Clarita Diet - Feb 3rd
Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant star in this Zombieland-style sitcom about a real estate agent couple trying to deal with the wife's (Barrymore) death and resurrection as a zombie.
Santa Clarita Diet may not please Walking Dead fans; however, those who love shows like iZombie, or darker suburban life comedies like Weeds will probably dig this.
prevnextIron Fist - March 17th
The Marvel Netflix universe will continue with Iron Fist, the highly anticipated final lead-in series to The Defenders miniseries.
Iron Fist will bring some of the most fantastical elements of the Netflix MCU to life, with a story of mystic warriors, secret ninja cabals, and a young man of Western wealth and privilege having his life forever changed by becoming a martial arts master of the East.
In other words: sounds like another great Marvel Netflix series.
prevnextGirlboss
30 Rock and New Girl writer Kay Cannon is launching this series based on the real-life story of Sophia Amoruso, who started the fashion company Nasty Girl after building herself up from an anarchist dumpster diver.
Besides Cannon as showrunner, the real lure of Girlboss will be young Britt Robertson, who broke out by starring in Tomorowland.
prevnextThe Defenders
Marvel's four Netflix series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist) will culminate with this big team-up miniseries event.
The Defenders won't just bring the principal four characters together - it will also bring the various narrative threads of the Netflix MCU together for an epic climax. This might very well be THE 2017 viewing event on Netflix.
prevnextDear White People
The controversial movie will be coming to Netflix as a comedic satire about "post-racial America," following a diverse group of students at an Ivy League college.
For those unafraid of socio-political comedy that pushes boundaries, this series (and the movie that inspired it) are worth checking out.
prevnextOzark
Jason Bateman and Laura Linney will star in this Breaking Bad-style series, playing a family man who must move to the Ozarks in obligation to a Mexican drug lord, laundering money for his cartel.
The series was created by Bill Dubuque, who wrote the character dramas The Accountant and The Judge, making us hope for a great slow-burn descent into a nightmare world.
prevnextG.L.O.W.
Based on the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, G.L.O.W. will follow Ruth (Alison Brie), a failing actress who takes a lost shot at glory in LA's world of women's wrestling.
In this modern era of WWE mania (specifically WWE Diva mania), G.L.O.W. will be the only show speaking directly to that demographic. Added bonus: Alison Brie could potentially have a breakout starring role on her hands!
prevnextThe Punisher
Continuing with Marvel, it should be remembered that in addition to Iron Fist and The Defenders, we'll also get The Punisher.
Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal made the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Frank Castle into something uniquely his own, and fans are excited to the character step out and become his full-fledged comic book self.
