Joel Edgerton-Starring Thriller 'It Comes At Night' Gets Ominous New Poster

Actor Joel Edgerton has had a strange career, bouncing around to all sorts of different genres of film to find his groove. In 2015, Edgerton wrote, directed, and starred in the taut thriller The Gift, which was one of the most acclaimed genre movies of the year. Edgerton is returning to the horror world with the film It Comes at Night, which just got a poster that easily makes a contender for the best poster we've seen so far this year.

The film's synopsis is as follows:

"A man (Joel Edgerton) learns that the evil stalking his family home may be only a prelude to horrors that come from within.

Secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world, the tenuous domestic order he has established with his wife and son is put to the ultimate test with the arrival of a desperate young family seeking refuge.

Despite the best intentions of both families, paranoia and mistrust boil over as the horrors outside creep ever-closer, awakening something hidden and monstrous within him as he learns that the protection of his family comes at the cost of his soul."

The film also stars Riley Keough, Carmen Ejogo, Christopher Abbot, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. and was directed by Trey Edwards.

A24 is distributing the film, who also brought two of 2016's best genre flicks with The Witch and Green Room.

The poster is phenomenal, conveying an ominous tone while not conveying what lurks in the darkness. If this poster indicates the amount of dread we can expect in the film, consider us excited.

It Comes at Night hits select theaters August 25.
