Many film fans know James Gunn for directing the huge super hero hit Guardians of the Galaxy, but horror fans think of him as the horror director who took a brief sabbatical from genre movies to make movies about comic books. In between his work on the first Guardians and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Gunn wrote The Belko Experiment for Greg McLean. Check out the first clip from the film!

As you can see from the above, the film has an ambitious premise.

The film’s official synopsis is as follows:

“In a twisted social experiment, a group of 80 Americans are locked in their high-rise corporate office in Bogata, Colombia and ordered by an unknown voice coming from the company’s intercom system to participate in a deadly game of kill or be killed.”

The Belko Experiment stars John Gallagher Jr., Tony Goldwyn, John C. McGinley and Michael Rooker.

The film looks like a combination of Battle Royale‘s ultra-violence featuring former comrades having to turn on one another and the humor of movies like Office Space or the TV series The Office.

As he’s shown in Slither, Super, and Dawn of the Dead, Gunn’s writing has always had an incredibly dark and twisted streak, so the premise of The Belko Experiment looks like it fits his style perfectly.

The Belko Experiment comes out March 17.
