SPOILERS ARE COMING
Fans of Game of Thrones who are familiar with the books have been eagerly anticipating a scene depicting the critical events at the Tower of Joy, where Eddard Stark and his allies battled through Rhaegar Targaryen’s guards to rescue Ned’s sister, Lyanna. Many fans also suspect that the scene holds the secret of Jon Snow’s true lineage.
As reported by Watchers on the Wall, Game of Thrones Season 6 has been filming at the Castillo de Zafra, a castle with a prominent tower that was unofficially confirmed to a Spanish news outlet, Los Siete Reinos, as the show’s Tower of Joy. L7R paid a visit to the castle and returned with new information on the flashback scene as it is being shot.
The most significant news is that Isaac Hempstead-Wright, the actor who plays Bran Stark, is on the set. This seems to confirm that Game of Thrones will present the events at the Tower of Joy as one of Bran’s visions, part of the gifts the Three-Eyed Raven is teaching him to control, rather than a simple cutaway.
The report also states that two unnamed actresses are on set. One is playing Lyanna Stark, but the other character is a mystery. Some possibilities suggested in the reports are Ashara Dayne โ the sister of Arthur Dayne, a key player in the events at the Tower of Joy โ or Wylla, the wetnurse to Arthur and Ashara’s brother, Edric. Wylla is one of the women often rumored to be Jon Snow’s mother.
The report also indicates 14 horses are being used on set, and several fighters and stunt performers are on hand, so expect a significant battle.
Rumors heard by L7R, but that they were not able to confirm, include that Jack Bender is directing the scene โ which would tie it to episodes 5 and 6 of the season โ and that a young Barristan Selmy will be present.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO in 2016.
