It was in January that director George Miller revealed he’d put together a black and white version of Mad Max: Fury Road with the intent to include the alternate cut on the film’s home media release. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. told Miller that there wasn’t enough room on the discs to include the Mad Max: Fury Road black and white cut.
Warner Bros. now intends to rectify that issue. Warner Bros. has announced that a two-film collection featuring Mad Max: Fury Road‘s theatrical cut and the black and white cut, now called Mad Max Fury Road: Black & Chrome Edition, will be released on Dec. 6, 2016.
Additionally, Warner Bros. will also release the Mad Max High Octane Collection on Dec. 6. The Mad Max High Octane Collection will be available on DVD and Blu-ray, and collects all four films in the Mad Max franchise โ Mad Max, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and Mad Max: Fury Road. The Mad Max High Octane Collection will also include the Mad Max Fury Road: Black & Chrome Edition. The Blu-ray edition will also include Mad Max: Fury Road and Mad Max Fury Road: Black & Chrome Edition in 4k Ultra-HD and UltraViolet digital copies.
Both Mad Max Fury Road: Black & Chrome Edition and the Mad Max High Octane Collection will include an introduction to the Mad Max Fury Road: Black & Chrome Edition cut from Miller. The Mad Max High Octane Collection will also include a brand new documentary, Road War, that chronicles the making of Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, as well as Madness of Max, a previously released documentary about the making of the original Mad Max.
