Yesterday, news spread across the internet about Michael Sheen, star of the Twilight films and the upcoming Passengers, about his career plans. Sheen wanted to clarify his comments, so he took to his Tumblr account to explain his statements.
Before this gets ridiculous I said I'm thinking I might start acting less and maybe even stop for a while at some point but don't know yet.— michael sheen (@michaelsheen) December 17, 2016
In his Tumblr post, Sheen wrote, "I DID NOT declare that I’m ‘quitting acting and leaving Hollywood’ to go into politics."
When excerpts from his initial profile were released, certain outlets chose to highlight only certain fragments of what he said, implying that he was leaving acting behind for good. In his post, Sheen confesses, "I said it might mean I work less as an actor and maybe even stop for a while AT SOME POINT. But I don’t really know yet."
Sheen clarified that his statements weren't attempts to lash out at Donald Trump or Brexit, however, he does close the post with some final thoughts on politics, warning, "What I think must be resisted is the re-emerging spectre of fascism in the West. Our democracy must be defended and each of us needs to decide how we can contribute to that effort."
Given Sheen's talents, we hope that any break from acting is short-lived, but also hope Sheen continues to pursue the interests he finds to be the most fulfilling.
