According to Deadline, Actress Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil Series, The Fifth Element) has joined the project and will be playing a drug lord in the film. Future World centers around a young boy who sets out to find medicine for his mother, who is on her deathbed. Whether or not this cure really exists is anyone’s guess, but that isn’t going to stop him from trying. Accompanied by his bodyguard, they journey across a world plagued by disease and war, and will come in contact with plenty of interesting characters as well as opposition, including the governing Warlord and Jovovich’s drug dealer along the way.

The film is being directed by Franco and Bruce Thierry Cheung, and is an original story by Franco, though the script is being penned by Cheung, Jay Davis, and Jeremy Cheung. As of now the film has cast only one other part, that of the Ratcatcher, being played by George Lewis Jr.

Jovovich is no stranger to post-apocalyptic scenarios, and will return for one last go-round as Alice in the upcoming Paul W.S. Anderson Director Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. As for Franco, he has a slew of projects on his plate, including Future World, but is also lending his voice to Seth Rogen’s upcoming Sausage Party animated film. He was also recently seen in the TV Mini-Series 11.22.63.

No release date for Future World has been announced at this time, but we will let you know when that becomes available.
