Twentieth Century Fox has released a new photo from Alien: Covenant.

The new photo shows Daniels, played by Katherine Waterston, brandishing a gun. Daniels is a member of the crew of the Covenant, the ship that gives Alien: Covenant its title, and it seems that things have gone very wrong for her and her shipmates.

Original Alien director Ridley Scott is returning to the franchise he birthed to direct Alien: Covenant, which is the second installment of the Alien prequel trilogy Scott began with Prometheus. Waterston was a bit starstruck in working with Scott.

"He's a master! He's got the energy of 10 25-year-olds," she tells Entertainment Weekly, adding that, "he's sadistic. He loves the thought of making people scream in a cinema."

Scott admits that making people afraid is a challenging task, even for a veteran director like himself.

"It's hard to scare people," he says. "It's a lot easier to make ­people laugh. But to really scare the sh– out of somebody? That's difficult."

Scott added that Alien: Covenant will answer some lingering questions left by Prometheus. ­"Covenant is really going to show you who did it and why."

In Alien: Covenant, headed toward a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew members of the colony ship Covenant discover what they believe to be an uncharted paradise, but it is actually a dark, menacing world in which the only inhabitant is the synthetic David (Michael Fassbender), a survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant is directed by Ridley Scott, written by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof, and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Billy Crudup and James Franco.

Alien: Covenant opens in theaters May 19, 2017.
