AMC has just released key art for the second half of Season 6 of The Walking Dead.

The new key art is consistent with the show’s current direction in relation the comics, dubbing it the “A Larger World” story arc seen in issues 93 to 96.
This puts the show on track to introduce several new characters, perhaps more than were introduced upon its arrival at the Alexandria Safe-Zone in season five. Several cast members have been announced and will arrive this season, including Tom Payne’s Paul “Jesus” Monroe (no relation to Deanna), Xander Berkeley’s Gregory, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s menacing Negan.
Negan, of course, is not introduced until the “Something To Fear” arc spanning from issues number 97 to 102, with his horrific first appearance coming in #100. Many suspect his arrival will come in the season six finale, having first been mentioned in the prologue for the next chapter after November’s midseason six finale.
“This image gives a look at tiny pieces of a larger world our group is about to discover,” said executive producer and showrunner Scott M. Gimple. “In the new world, they’ll find hope, possibility, tragedy and the terrifying cost of change.”
Of course, the smoke coming from a field is perfectly ripped from the first A Larger World comic book cover. It looks like we will, in fact, be journeying to the Hilltop community sooner than later!
Some other interesting takeaways from this new promotional image are the zombie in handcuffs, Morgan on a horse, and the satelite dish. First of all, zombies have been used as weapons several times in the comics, especially by Negan. Morgan riding a horse is intriguing not only because this becomes a common form of transportation for our characters in the comics, but Morgan died when the walkers ravaged Alexandria. According to his appearance here, this won’t be the case.
The Walking Dead returns February 14 at 9 PM ET on AMC.
