Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, and Mary Chieffo have come on board the new Star Trek series, which will debut on CBS and then move to CBS All Access for the duration of its season.
According to Variety, Obi, Latif, and Chieffo will join the Klingon alien race, a staple of the franchise since Star Trek: The Original Series.
Obi will play T’Kuvma, a Klingon leader looking to unite the race’s many houses. Latif will play Kol, a commanding officer as well as T’Kuvma’s protege. Chieffo will play L’Rell, commander of the Klingon ship’s battle deck.
This trio joins the previously announced Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones, and Anthony Rapp as part of the cast of Star Trek: Discovery.
Star Trek: Discovery takes its title from the name of the ship featured in the series, the USS Discovery. Star Trek: Discovery is set 10 years prior to the events of Star Trek: The Original Series. While returning to the core Star Trek theme of exploration, the first season of Star Trek: Discovery is said to feature a season-long story arc dealing with a known event from Star Trek history that has so far been talked about but never visited directly by the franchise.
