First appearing at Nakamura’s first match at TakeOver: Dallas, Roode has made a name for himself in the NXT universe with his over the top entrances and extremely catchy “Glorious” theme song. A former world champion in his own right, Roode is looking to make a name for himself in the WWE and taking on and beating, one of NXT’s very best is a sure-fire way to get noticed.

The two men went at it for about 30 minutes, with Nakamura injuring himself trying to take down Roode. After a fatal Kinshasa knee strike, the King of Strong Style was not able to capitalize and hurt his knee. When Roode recovered, he took advantage and heavily assaulted his opponent’s knee. There was a moment when fans though Roode had Nakamura with a submission move, but the champion was able to power out and reverse it.

However, after being weakened for so long, Nakamura was pinned and Roode was declared the new NXT Champion.

Nakamura hasn’t been with the NXT brand long (just shy of 9 months) but already established himself as one of the most energetic and charismatic stars of the whole WWE. Should he recover, it’s only a matter of time before we see the King on the main roster.
