If a recent report is to be believed, you might see a big drop off in female Power Rangers on toys shelves.

That isn’t regarding one specific toy line either. According to Tokunation, Bandai America openly stated to fans at New York Comic Con that they would be decreasing the number of female action figures in their toy lines. The main reason behind those statements is that they’re not selling, but Bandai also blamed those figures for delaying other requested lines.
Specifically the much requested Psycho Rangers line from Power Rangers In Space. Evidentally these are ready to ship, but Bandai can’t do so because a large amount of other figures are still on store shelves, and a substantial amount of these are female figures.
Adding fuel to that fire is the latest round of Bandai’s popular Legacy line. Wave 4 of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Legacy line features the Black, Blue, and Red Rangers with metallic finishes. This also fits with Bandai’s stance on Power Rangers monsters, which also see smaller entries due to not selling as well as the Rangers themselves.
So, is this true? Well, it very well could be, but Saban has not released an official statement on the matter. This issue previously came up a few years ago, but at that time it revolved around pressure to not feature girl action figures in the line at all. Bandai America addressed that directly, saying they had no plans to do that, but this is a much different ball of wax.
If you happen by your local Walgreens, Target, or Walmart, you are prone to see some repeats in the Power Rangers aisle. Thing is, it isn’t just female figures though, as personally, we’ve seen 2 or 3 White Ranger figures at any given time next to the Mighty Morphin Yellow Ranger. The Yellow In Space Ranger seems to be the biggest nonseller, and you can readily find a Power Rangers Ninja Steel White or Pink Ranger action figure.
To be fair, you can find pretty much any Ninja Steel figure at the moment, so that’s not really a negative.
In any case, we’ve reached out to Bandai America for comment and will let you know if we hear back.
