Times have changed a great deal since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted in 1993, and that includes Green Ranger merchandise.

This is immediately evident in a throwback image that takes a trip back to 1993. The item at hand is a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Talking Communicator. At the time there were communicators for all of the Rangers, but this one featured the ever popular Green Ranger and came in limited supply.
Green Ranger actor Jason David Frank found an image of the communicator being offered on QVC, which showed it in all it’s shiny glory with the big “Sold Out” sticker over the title. You’ll get a kick out of the price too, which by today’s standards is a steal.
At the time the Green Ranger communicator was being sold for $37.00 full price, but QVC “slashed” the price and offered it for $33.85, plus $3.97 shipping and handling of course.
Frank posted the image with the caption, “Who’s got one of these? JDF #1993 DONT call that number this is over 25 years old haha JDF.”
Since then Saban has offered updated communicators under its successful Legacy collectibles line. The regular version of the Legacy Communicator comes with 5 color bands that you can swap out to resemble all 5 original Rangers, and retails for $59.00.
That’s pretty affordable (at least by today’s standards), but if you are wanting to grab the Tommy Oliver edition, well the price point is going to go up substantially. The average price point is around $179.99 but goes higher.
If you’ve managed to keep the original version all these years, odds are it’s worth more than the original $37 asking price.
The Green Ranger was quite popular back during the show’s first seasons (and selling tons of merchandise), so you can understand why fans were upset when he was written off of the show. Unfortunately, they couldn’t just bring him back in the same way.
“So we ran out of Green Ranger footage,” said Frank about Saban bringing him back to the show. “So they went to the next season and brought me back as the White Ranger, which I thought was just as cool.”
The White Ranger would become quite popular as well, but many will always love the Green Ranger more.
