Star Wars: Princes William and Harry Cameos Cut From 'The Last Jedi'

Being royalty comes along with it quite a few perks, such as the opportunity to don Stormtrooper armor and film a scene for The Last Jedi. Unfortunately, even being royalty can't guarantee you make the final cut in a Star Wars film, with Last Jedi star John Boyega revealing that, despite filming scenes with Princes Harry and William, the duo didn't end up in the final product.

"They cut it out of the film," Boyega revealed to talk show This Morning. "I did personally apologize to them yesterday and said, 'Sorry you were cut out of the film.' Will was like, 'I guess I just need to work more on the skill.'"

It only makes sense for Boyega to have confirmed the pair had been cut, seeing as he was the one to have confirmed they made an appearance in the first place.

When Boyega was appearing on BBC Radio 4's "Today" program, the actor revealed of the cameos, "I think they took that scene out. I've had enough with those Prince William secrets, man. They came on set; they were there, man. Tom Hardy was there, too – I said it. I'm sick of hiding this… Every time I get asked I don't know how to dodge it. Yeah, they were on set."

During an actors roundtable hosted by The Hollywood Reporter, Boyega said the experience made for a "strange contrast of a weird family" and clarified, "It's the best of both worlds for me."

The scene was also to feature Tom Hardy and singer of Take That, Gary Barlow. It's unclear at this time if all four of those involved in the scene have been cut from the final product or if Hardy and Barlow's Stormtroopers still managed to make an appearance.

The princes shouldn't take the news personally, as Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson revealed recently that the first cut of the film clocked it at over three hours before being trimmed down to 150 minutes. Whether the scene was cut for pacing issues or importance on the overall narrative is unclear, but it's possible the scene will show up on the Blu-ray release.

The Last Jedi debuts in theaters tonight.
