Following the departure of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller from the Han Solo spin-off film, fans have grown quite concerned over the film’s status. Details about the film were kept under wraps throughout most of the shoot, but with Ron Howard taking over directing duties, it would appear that Lucasfilm has grown less strict about what the cast and crew are able to post on social media about the experience. Star Emilia Clarke recently took the opportunity to celebrate a social media milestone by posting a video of Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca.

Having been played by Peter Mayhew in all previous live-action films, Suotamo has some pretty big shoes to fill, but based on his roar, he sounds like he’s well on his way to paying the character the respect he deserves.

Clarke isn’t the only one to be showing off behind-the-scenes looks of the Wookiee, with Ron Howard posting a photo of Chewbacca looking at a monitor displaying footage of a scene earlier this month.

Since Howard has taken over the directing responsibilities, he has regularly teased fans with vague and cryptic photos and videos, ranging from trash cans to water bottles to characters’ wardrobes.

The Han Solo spin-off will be hitting theaters May 24, 2018.

More Han Solo News:

The Han Solo movie is being produced by Lucasfilm from a screenplay by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan and will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the second standalone Star Wars movie following Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016.

Set prior to the events of Han Solo’s first appearance in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, the film stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo. The film is said to show how Han Solo and Chewbacca, first met Lando Calrissian, played by Glover.

Filming on the Han Solo movie began in January 2017 with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directing. Principal photography began at Pinewood Studios in February. Lord and Miller left the Han Solo movie in June, having reportedly been fired over creative differences. Ron Howard will come on as the director to see the production to completion.
