Gareth Edwards‘ rise as a prolific filmmaker has been meteoric after a critically acclaimed debut with Monster, a low-budget thriller that debuted at South by Southwest and the Cannes Film Festival.

After wowing critics and studio execs with his filmmaking prowess, Legendary tapped him to helm their big budget Godzilla reboot. And then he was given the opportunity to create Lucasfilm’s first Star Wars spinoff film, Rogue Oneโa decidedly different tale from the monster-centric stories he’d done up until then.
But both Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Godzilla were well enough received, the latter being used as a springboard for an entirely different shared universe with King Kong and other monsters.
