But before we get to that episode this weekend, let’s take a look back at everything we’ve learned about Mandalore, the Darksaber, and the culture, thanks to Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, the two animated series that have greatly expanded the mythos of the galaxy far, far away.

If you haven’t watched, be warned, there are SPOILERS in here – it’s a spoiler-filled episode guide. If you just want to catch up or refresh yourself on your own, just check out the titles on each page and consider this a handy Mandalorian episode title guide.

TCW: S2E12: The Mandalore Plot

The first Mandalorian-centric episode ofย Star Wars: The Clone Wars kicked off a three-episode arc that introduced us to Satine, Duchess of Mandalore. Obi-Wan investigatesย and discovers Death Watch, a group of Mandalorianย fundamentalists who want to get back to their war-filled roots.

ย

TCW: S2E13: Voyage of Temptation

Part two of the firstย Clone Wars Mando arc sees the focus shift significantly to the personal relationship between Satine and Obi-Wan Kenobi; yes,ย that kind of relationship. Anakin learns that Obi-Wan was in love with Satine, which understandably rocks his world.

ย

TCW: S2E14: Duchess of Mandalore

Part three of the arc sees a showdown with Pre Vizsla, who upon his failure to kill Satineย is betrayed by Count Dooku. This is the last we see of the Mandalorians for awhile, but they come back in aย big way in season 3…

ย

TCW: S3E5: Corruption

The onlyย Mando arc in season 3 ofย The Clone Wars saw Padmeย heading to Mandaloreย to offer the Republic’s help in keeping it safe. They discover that there’s a significant (and titular) corruption in the Mandalorianย government, all the way down to the Academy…

ย

TCW: S3E6: The Academy

Ahsoka goes undercover at the Academy on Mandaloreย and they eventually discover that the Prime Minister, Almec, is directly involved in the black market corruption of Mandalore. They take him down, but it leaves Mandaloreย open to further infiltration…

ย

TCW: S5E14: Eminence

Possibly the most depressing story arc of the entire series, Eminence kicked off Darth Maul and his brother Savage Opress taking over Mandalore, joining forces with Death Watch. It introduces Bo-Katanย Kryze, an incredible female Mandalorianย soldier. They also recruit other members of the underworld of theย Star Warsย galaxy to their cause.

ย

TCW: S5E15: Shades of Reason

The second chapter sees Maul, Savage, Pre Vizsla, and their Shadow Collective attack and successfully take over Mandalore. After an expected betrayal, Maul takes the Darksaber from Vizsla, and decapitates him. Bo-Katanย turns away from Death Watch.

ย

TCW: S5E16: The Lawless

The episode I write about the most, in this episode we seeย so much happen. Darth Maul kills Satine in front of a distraught Obi-Wan Kenobi. Bo-Katan, revealed as Satine’s sister, helps Obi-Wan escape Mandalore, to inform the Republic of the events there. Palpatine, as Darth Sidious, hits Mandaloreย to admonish Maul for taking on an apprentice, kills Savage, and takes Maul.

ย

Rebels: S2E8: Blood Sisters

The firstย Star Wars Rebels episode to really dive into the Mandaloriansย and any of Sabine’s past, this episode met Ketsuย Onyo, a bounty hunter with history with Sabine: they both escaped the Imperial Academy together. We didn’t get much Mando backstory, but our first real taste of Sabine’s.

ย

Rebels: S2E13: The Protector of Concord Dawn

This episode introduced a new world in the former Mandalorianย Empire, Concord Dawn, and a squad of “Protectors,” who keep Mandalorianย interests and traditions alive on the world. Sabine manages to defeat and capture their leader Fenn Rau, which leads directly to his next appearance, and eventually to where we sit now…

ย

Rebels: S3E7: Imperial Supercommandos

The first Mandalorian-centric episode ofย Star Wars Rebelsย season 3 brought inย a major player in the past of Mandalore, Gar Saxon, who was first introduced in the comicbook “Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir.” We meet a squadron of imperial Mandalorians, and Sabine successfully recruits her first Mandalorianย Rebel, Fennย Rau. Sabine finally gets a jetpackย of her own.

ย

Rebels: S3E11: Visions and Voices *limited

This episode wasn’t Mandalorian-centric, as it was actually focused on (formerly Darth) Maul and the Nightsisters of Dathomir. However, it is where Sabine retrieved the darksaber, a special black lightsaber connected to her family of House Vizsla.

ย

Rebels: S3E15: Trials of the Darksaber

In the last episode before the current hiatus, Sabine Wren trained with the Jedi Kananย and Ezra to learn how to wield the Darksaber. We alsoย finally learned the history of the black lightsaber, which was a creation of the first Mandalorianย Jedi, Tar Vizsla. We also also learned that the Jedi and the Mandalorians had a war (something taken fromย Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic) and the Mandos still have weapons made specifically to fight Jedi. We also also also learned that Sabine was exiled as a traitor because she refused toย continue helping the Empire, not for joining them in the first place. It was a big episode for Mandalorianย history both personal and mythological.

Coming Up: Rebels S3E16: Legacy of Mandalore

And that brings us to this weekend, whenย Star Wars Rebels returns with the episode “Legacy of Mandalore.” The episode will see Sabine fulfilling her destiny and birthright as a member of House Vizslaย and challenging for control of the Mandaloriansย using the Darksaber. Full preview is here.
