John Boyega is becoming one of the most sought-after actors for big-budget blockbusters, as he’s following his performance in The Last Jedi with a starring role in Pacific Rim Uprising. The actor might not have shared any scenes with Mark Hamill in the Star Wars film, but the two clearly developed an affinity for one another, teasing one another on Twitter about Boyega’s upcoming action film.

After Boyega shared a video to promote his upcoming film, Hamill replied, “Very exciting son! But as much as I enjoy you, fun, giant robots, fighting, etc.-I’m just worried that since I didn’t see the 1st one, I’ll have no idea what’s going on plot-wise. Hope there’s some kind of re-cap prologue to bring me up to speed.”
Boyega’s replied included various emojis while assuring, “You know you’re not watching part 1 dad but don’t worry we definitely connect the stories and I’ll call you to explain jaeger language.”
Much like The Empire Strikes Back divided our heroes, so did The Last Jedi, sending Boyega’s Finn on a covert mission to infiltrate the First Order while Rey spent much of her time on Ahch-To with Luke.
While filming The Force Awakens, Boyega had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Harrison Ford, both on screen and off. The actor made it quite clear how much he adored Ford and expressed his admiration at every opportunity.
“It’s a different change when you’re coming on to the next movie and Harrison Ford is not there,” Boyega told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon of filming The Last Jedi. Han Solo is not there. It’s the reality of Han Solo’s death, and it’s just mad, but whenever I can see him it’s great times.”
Ford’s legacy had preceded him on set, yet much of the cast attempted to play it cool in front of the icon. Boyega, on the other hand, could hardly contain himself.
“Everybody else was really modest and kind and sincere, whereas I was just like ‘Can I have a hug, please?’” the actor revealed.
Pacific Rim Uprising lands in theaters on March 23.
