A pair of brave musicians ventured into uncharted territory when they decided to stop by John Williams’ house and do what none have dared to before: serenade the legendary composer. The duo set up a music stand and proceeded to play the iconic Star Wars theme outside of Williams’ house in a city that’s not all that far, far away.

13-year-old Bryce Hayashi took care of trumpet while flugelhorn player Michael Miller accompanied the teen for the epic duet. Miller arranged the duo’s piece, but of course, John Williams’ composed the epic instrumental recording a long time ago in a galaxy close, close to our own. Prior to their performance, the two took time to practice their piece in a parking garage to air out their nerves, and it’s clear to see how much the pair practiced ahead of showtime.
The performance video stands at just over a minute, and Williams himself comes out to greet the players around the 1:06 mark. The unknown lady who recorded the video tells the two that Williams is “right there” and that “he [Williams] said hello.” Viewers can then see Williams peek his head out from his doorstep to smile at the excited musicians.
Unsurprisingly, the two are kind of overwhelmed by Williams’ appearance, and it should warm all of our hearts to see their smiles when the composer walks over to them. While Hayashi looks somewhat reserved in front of one of Hollywood’s biggest talents, Miller is seen laughing freely at the encounter. Williams compliments the pair’s work before shaking hands with Hayashi, telling the boy he did a “fantastic” job for his age.
Born in 1932, Williams is a respected composer and classical musicians who’s created infamous music scores for Jaws, the Star Wars series, Superman, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Indiana Jones, and the first three Harry Potter films. He’s been the recipient of countless awards from AFI, the Academy Awards, BAFTA, Emmys, Golden Globes, and Grammys.
