At New York Comic Con, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman revealed one character from The Walking Dead will join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead or vice versa. If the scenario turns out to be a Fear character journeying to the east coast to join Rick Grimes’ gang of survivors, the best suited to do so is Alycia Debnam-Carey’s Alicia Clark.

“There is one character that is going to go from one show, that I will not name, to another show, that I will not name,” Kirkman said. “This is a huge event in the world of The Walking Dead.” Should the move see a Walking Dead character join Fear, Abraham Ford is the likely candidate, but Alicia should be first in line for the opposite crossover.

It’s a move the cast of Fear the Walking Dead was unaware of ahead of the announcement and even caught showrunner Dave Erickson by a bit of surprise.

“I had suspicions but it was not something that we were considering when we were breaking Season 3,” Erickson said. “I think it’s a good thing for the show. I think it’s something that’s going to hopefully galvanize both our modest fanbase and then the much larger Walking Dead fanbase.”

For Debnam-Carey to become the character who fulfills the crossover destiny, the actress would be required to work seemingly more weeks than there are in year. However, based on the narrative of the two shows, she is the best candidate from Fear the Walking Dead to join the group in Alexandria.

Here’s why…

The Character

Of all the characters on Fear the Walking Dead, Alicia Clark has undergone the most impressive transformation. The character began the apocalypse by weeping for her boyfriend who feel victim to the zombie apocalypse in its earliest days. From there, a few immature decisions like revealing her location to a boy over the radio would put her group in danger.

By now, however, Alicia is a cut throat and level-headed survivor. She is willing to do what it takes whenever necessary to ensure her own survival but has not lost her morality. As much was evidenced when she encountered a stranger in Episode 3×14 who would take her food. Rather than killing her, Alicia reasoned with her.

The qualities are reminiscent of The Walking Dead‘s Maggie Greene. Maggie began the apocalypse by being sheltered from the harsh new world on her father’s farm. Since, she has experienced tremendous loss. Her family has been wiped out and her husband killed before her very eyes.ย

Alicia feels a similar pain and uses it to motivate her in a similar way.

In fact, during a panel at Buildย Series in New York City this year, Debnam-Carey named Maggie as the character from The Walking Dead she would most like to cross paths with.ย “I’ve always said Maggie would be a good one [to work with] just because I think that’s a good duo,” Debnam-Carey said. “I think I’d really like to see that girl power. Yeah, so, I think that would be my crossover dream.”

Not to mention, Debnam-Carey has an avid following on social media who will follow her just about anywhere, though the group would advocate to keep her character in focus, rather than overlooked on the larger ensemble of The Walking Dead.ย

The Narrative

Ahead of Robert Kirkman’s crossover announcement, Fear the Walking Dead may have already planted the seeds for Alicia Clark to begin her journey to The Walking Dead.

In Episodes 3×12, 3×13, and 3×14, Alicia Clark was put on a path towards setting out on her own journey separate of the group’s at the Mexican-American journey. As Alicia heads in a new direction with her new friend, she becomes the most likely candidate to reach the east coast and join The Walking Dead‘s survivors.ย

Still, Fear the Walking Dead is set years prior to The Walking Dead‘sย current timeline. So, with the geographical separation of the characters solved, years have to pass before Alicia can appear alongside Maggie or anyone else from Alexandria, the Hilltop, or the Kingdom.

Fear the Walking Dead has been renewed for a fourth season, set to premiere in 2018. The fourth season and seasons which may follow might feature time jumps as The Walking Dead did between many of its breaks, rushing the process and evolution of Alicia Clark on her journey east.

Furthermore, the door is open for a Fear character to debut on The Walking Deadย ahead of the journey unfolding through season(s) of Fear. The original series is set to introduce a flash forward sequence with Rick Grimes in its Season 8 premiere which will likely be realized in full following its All Out War story in Season 9. Either Alicia can appear in the flash forward scene or be a fully integrated part of the community down the road in Season 9 of The Walking Dead.ย

After all, someone has to become Alpha, leader of the Whisperers.ย
