The Walking Dead‘s Season 7 premiere was one of the most anticipated episodes of the entire series and most iconic in television history.
Best known for its horrific violence and the deaths of Abraham and Glenn, the episode really required quite a bit of stunt work and extra effort from the visual effects team. Directed by series executive producer Greg Nicotero, The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be called on the entire cast and crew to create the unforgettable hour of television.
The video at the top of the page takes us behind the scenes and inside of the episode with several members of the show’s cast and crew.
“Everything that we’ve learned and lived through has been reinvented,” Andrew Lincoln said.
“Negan continually senses that Rick might not be onboard with his way of life,” Nicotero said. “Rick isn’t gonna back down.”
One of the elements of Episode 7×01 which has people talking is Negan’s choice to leave Rick with his life. Instead of killing the man who appeared to pose the biggest threat to him and his Saviors group, he chose to break him down and make an example out of him.
“You would think that killing two of his people would’ve done it,” Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan said. “But it doesn’t.”
“Negan loves breaking people,” said executive producer Gale Anne Hurd.
“I think Negan is thinking a couple steps ahead here,” Morgan said. “He’s thinking, ‘If I can break this guy, I stand to gain a hell of a lot more.”
