Last weekend, fans of The Walking Dead were shocked to hear the rumor that Chandler Riggs could be leaving the show. The actor, who has played Carl since the series premiere, has just completed his seven-year contract now that this season has wrapped production.

Fans began to question Carl’s future on the show when Riggs’ father, William, posted a cryptic message on his Facebook page, thanking The Walking Dead for such a wonderful seven years.
“7 year contract completed! Grateful to AMC, Cast & Crew, TWD fan base, and especially Chandler for always being 100% dedicated. Whether is was getting up at 4 AM, working in the freezing cold past 2 AM, leaving his friends and carefree kiddom behind, scrambling to make up missed schoolwork, he has done it without complaint and always made me proud & amazed to be his dad!”
In addition to this comment, Riggs’ had announced recently that he’d been accepted into college. His acceptance into Auburn University, coupled with his dad’s heartfelt message, made it seem like an exit could be in order for the young actor.
No one in the Riggs family, or from The Walking Dead, had commented on the issue all week. Saturday, however, Chandler’s mom had some clarification.
Gina-Ann Riggs posted a picture on Instagram of some of the family near a part of the season four set, next to a very familiar wall. The wall in the photo is the one that appears next to Chandler’s name in the opening credits.
When fans began to comment on Chandler’s rumored exit, Gina-Ann had some definitive words to put their minds at ease.
“Don’t over analyze. His seven year contract is up. That’s all he was saying, nothing else. Pretty big accomplishment for a child actor (and for the parent who had to quit his job for this child to be able to follow his dream).”
While there is still no official word regarding Carl’s future, this can help fans breathe a little easier. It looks like Coral isn’t going anywhere. Not any time soon.
