Fear the Walking Dead left viewers with a cliffhanger as it appeared the families would reunite but a twist at the border left their fates unsure. Following the evacuation of La Colonia, Nick lead his group to the Mexican-American border in hopes of finding refuge. Instead, he found a gun fight with all of his people unarmed.
On their way to the border in hopes of finding Nick is his mother Madison and her small group which only recently came back together.
Heading into Season 3 of Fear, the intensity doesn’t seem to be settling, at all.
Family Reunion
The question of whether or not Madison would ever be reunited with her son Nick has been answered.
In a quick cut of the trailer, a glimpse of Madison and her son Nick fighting the undead together zips by. It appears they have both made their way to the camp lead by the group which attacked Nick and Luciana to cap Season 2. However, the new question is, “Why are they surrounded by zombies?”
Is this some sort of a test put in place by the new group of figuring out which survivors are worthy of living within their walls or have they been tossed into a pit by enemies hoping to see them die?
Luciana Lives
The biggest question following Season 2, though, was whether or not Luciana would survive. In the final moments of the Season 2 finale, Luciana was shot by a member of the newly introduced militia.
It was largely expected Luciana would survive. In fact, Luciana actress Danayย Garcia has spoken on the subject, saying, “Of course, she’ll be back!” Still, when a character is shot in the zombie apocalypse, they’re fate cannot be determined until their story is exposed on television.
It appears, though, that Luciana is being helped to safety in recovery in a community which might be different from the one Nick, Madison, and Travis are seen in. Also, are the characters helping her members of La Colonia or new faces being introduced in Season 3?
More Government?
One thing fans were hoping to see from the sibling series to The Walking Dead was how the government and society fell to the zombie virus. Fear the Walking Dead began to touch upon the fall of the government as the undeadย took over but quickly took its story to sea and left the world to burn in its wake.
Season 3 appears to be exploring the remnants of the government as it continues its fall. Don’t expect a real government army to arrive, though. This last batch of armed newcomers rocking military garb has already been described as a “militia” by the produced. It will be comprised of surviving soldiers who no longer answer to the non-existent government’s call.
Strand’s Return
Colman Domingo’s Victor Strand was last seen hanging back at the hotel in Mexico when Travis, Madison, and Alicia had to leave for Travis’ best interests. It was unclear whether or not the character would return to the AMC series.
Now it’s clear.
Strand has returned but he is no longer at the hotel — though, he most certainly wishes he was. In the footage from Fear‘s Season 3 trailer, Strand is seen being pushed over the edge at a dam, shortly after the law enforcement in the area was revealed to be dumping living bodies over the edge.ย
Why is this happening? Is this population control? Do they believe these people are infected? Are they just jerks?
Prisoners
Looking closely, fans can catch the fact that both Travis and Nick have been taken prisoner. It’s likely what prompts Madison to drive a spoon (yes, a spoon — not a knife, not a fork – A SPOON!) into one soldier’s eye as she questions what he did.
As for how Travis and Nick found themselves in this position, it is anybody’sย guess. Travis and Madison had to catch up to Nick, in the first place. Perhaps this militia was dealing with the Cartel gang which Nick devised a plan to have killed at La Colonia?ย
Either way, it doesn’t look like either of these two are going to be held captive very long.ย
Killers
Not only did Nick and Travis quickly fight their way out of captivity, reflecting the ruthless ability to survive Travis put on display in the Season 2 finale, but Nick appears to be killing someone in cold blood.
In a scene reminiscent of Rick’s killing of Shane on The Walking Dead in its second season, Fear the Walking Dead Season 3 will see Nick doing what has to be done in the middle of a field as someone lay defenselessly on the ground beneath him. In fact, it looks like the victim may have already been killed and Nick might be ensuring they do not reanimate.
The person on the receiving end of that bullet could have offended the former drug addict in a number of ways… They may have shot his girlfriend Luciana, talked down to his sister Alicia, or even attacked his mother Madison. Nick has become very protective. Perhaps this is the man Dayton Callies is playing who captured the absent-from-the-trailer Ofelia?
