The British actor, screenwriter, and playwright was born in Nottingham, England and was raised in South London. James made his professional acting debut in a 1988 episode (“Between the Craks”) of BBC2’s Screenplay, a drama anthology television series. From there until his feature film debut in 1997’s The Perfect Blue, James found steady work on the small screen, landing multiple-episode guest roles on The Orchid House, Civvies, and Out of the Blue.

Of course, James is best known for playing Morgan Jones on AMC’s hit-television series, The Walking Dead. He guest-starred in the 2010 pilot, but despite fans clamoring for his return, he wouldn’t reappear until the twelfth episode of the third season. He popped back up in a trio of episode in the fifth season and became a series regular at the start of the sixth season and has been ever since.

Aside from The Walking Dead, James is also known for several other television roles, such as Mr. Glen Boyle on the medical drama Critical, Robert Hawkins on Jericho, and Detective Joe Geddes on Low Winter Sun.

As for films, he’s appeared in Les Misรฉrables (1998), Snatch (2000), 24 Hour Party People (2002), Sahara (2005), and Outlaw (2007).

Don’t miss Lennie James in the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead, Sunday, October 23 at 9/8c.
