AMC has just released a brand new key image for Season 7 of The Walking Dead featuring the show’s new big bad – Negan. The black and white photo is a nice callback to the comic series (which is also black and white) with stark red lettering teasing “We’re just getting started.”

While fans were introduced to the iconic villain in season 6, his impact won’t be fully felt until season 7 gets up and running, starting with the much-anticipated reveal of who meets their end at the hands of Lucille. While Rick’s group is at the mercy of Negan’s followers early on, the season 7 trailer shows glimpses of new communities like The Kingdom that will tip the scale in their favor.
Actor Logan Miller, who is a member of The Kingdom, recently shed some light on the colony’s leader, Ezekiel.
“Ezekiel is a fantastical character, seeing him it, kind of blowing the veil back and seeing what he’s actually about, I think fans are really going enjoy. He’s such a unique character, it’s going to bring some heightened drama I suppose to The Walking Dead.”
At some point down the road, Rick and company will face off against Negan in an even bigger way. Andrew Lincoln recently touched on that eventual conflict, and if it follows the comic, fans should be prepared for quite a showdown.
“If we follow the comic book, then there’s a super badass conflict between Negan and us, and I think that’s certainly something that I think will trump anything we’ve attempted before in the show,” Lincoln says.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 23rd at 9pm ET.
