In The Walking Dead‘s sixth season, it had a cameo appearance from the definition of an A-list celebrity. When Rick Grimes chose which head to deliver to the Saviors, posing it as Gregory’s, one of the molds was crafted after Johnny Depp.

The prop head happened to be in Greg Nicotero‘s VFX team’s arsenal and made the cut of the episode. Some fans spotted it before Nicotero went on record to point it out himself.

After the episode aired, Daryl Dixon actor Norman Reedus decided he wanted to keep the prop. Reedus has now taken to Instagram, more than a year past the episode’s airing, to share a photo of the prop head. “Jd says good night,” Reedus wrote with the photo, which is embedded below.

The episode which featured the head was 6×12, titled Not Tomorrow Yet. It was directed by Nicotero and saw Reedus’s Daryl raiding a Savior compound with Rick, Abraham, Glenn, Heath, Tara, Michonne, and a little help Jesus and Father Gabriel. This all happened before the arrival of the real Negan took a couple of those characters from us, of course.

“I think we had sculpted an emaciated version of a dummy head for something and we used Johnny Depp‘s head as a basis just for a clay sculpt,” Nicotero said. “I think one of the funniest moments we’ve shot in the season is when the Savior sticks his hand inside the head and puppeteers it to start talking. I laughed so hard when we shot that scene.”
