Rick and Morgan were separated since the penultimate episode of The Walking Dead‘s sixth season. Their last moments together saw them recalling Denise saving Carl’s life, which Morgan attributes to his “all life is precious” creed and Rick revealed that Michonne did, in fact, take Morgan’s peanut butter bar.

Since their separation, Rick has been introduced to the villainous Negan, witnessed many of his friends dying, and launched a rally to unify groups against Negan in the Saviors for war. In that same time, Morgan found Carol, met King Ezekiel and his Kingdom, and found a young man who can somewhat fill the void left by his late son Duane. Their most recent encounter at the Kingdom was brief in Season 7 but the next will be very different.

Should the two characters survive long enough, Rick and Morgan will certainly be coming together again, although Morgan does not appear to have any intentions of heading back to the Kingdom. Now, his no-killing creed has been broken once again. Morgan appeared to have snapped and was sent on a trip down memory lane all the way to Crazy Town in the wake of Benjamin’s death.

Lennie James shared his perspective of Rick and Morgan’s next encounter while talking to ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview.

“I think it’s going to be interesting,” James said. “I think it’s going to be worth watching. I think it is inevitable and all the way through this story we’re telling, on one way or another and not exclusively but certainly an important connection in this story, is the connection between Morgan and Rick and Rick and Morgan. They are both kind of barometers of each other. Whenever they meet, there is a sense that we, the audience, are getting a gage at where both men are. Not just in relation to each other, but in relation to the world that our story exists in and the other people around us. So, I suspect that should Morgan and Rick come face to face, or the next time they come face to face, it’s going to be a moment, that’s for sure.”

With Morgan officially ready to go to war, he might be just what Rick is looking for. However, if he is not mentally stable, the character might be nothing more than a hazard for Rick’s army. Of course, he won’t be somebody Negan wants to cross paths with, either war.

Rick, however, is one of three characters who has seen Morgan in the unstable mental state. He, with Michonne and Carl, found him in Season 3 and might show a bit of hesitance towards trusting Morgan is he shows signs of instability.
