With the introduction of what seems to be a major new character and the first official depiction of how life outside the United States was impacted by the zombie apocalypse, fans of The Walking Dead had to wonder, earlier today, whether Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin’s The Walking Dead: The Alien really “counted.”

It certainly did, according to The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.

“For those asking: Yes The Walking Dead: The Alien from @PanelSyndicate is 100% canon. It’s real. It matters,” Kirkman tweeted.

He added, in case anyone had any doubts, “That’s really who that is. Enjoy!”

Set in the world of The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: The Alien is a pay-what-you-want one-shot that centers on two new characters named Jeff and Claudia who were in Barcelona, Spain, at the time of the outbreak. Jeff, for his part, is fairly preoccupied with a family emergency back in the U.S….!
