Just before dying, Abraham began to see there was more to this world than simply surviving. He had decided he was ready to embrace the rebuilding of civilization and didn’t want to do it alone. During an interview in preparation for the release of The Walking Dead: The Complete Seventh Season on Blu-ray, Abraham actor Michael Cudlitz shared the character’s perspective.

“I think that they show it, that’s the answer,” Cudltiz said in reference to the deleted scene and dream sequence from the Season Seven premiere. “That’s the possibility, is that there, where everyone moved forward and started families. One of the big questions for Abraham is that he’s asking everybody, whereas how can you possibly see it logically if he could have kids.”

The standout moment from the deleted scene, which can be watched in the video at the top of the page, is Sasha’s pregnancy. “That’s the whole scene with me and Steven, and Glenn, was about in the motor home pulling a Bisquick we plan on having, making pancakes and how he couldn’t wrap his head around how you could want to have kids in this world,” Cudlitz said. “And then by the end, driving the motor home with Sasha, whenever it was, a couple episodes before the end of Abraham, he says, ‘I can see me doing that with you.’ And it’s just that logical extension of that. We see him see himself having a child with her, but in the end, in an alternate universe, they do. They continue to move forward in the world and create life, and it’s a new beginning. But that’s not the reality.”

Cudlitz also offers new perspective of his time on The Walking Dead on commentary tracks and featurettes for The Walking Dead: The Complete Seventh Season which is available on Blu-ray on August 22nd.

The Walking Dead‘s sibling series Fear the Walking Dead returns September 10th. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season on October 22, 2017.
