“I just wanted to say a quick goodbye I guess, which is weird,” Nacon says in a video addressed to Riggs, shared Saturday by the official Walking Dead Twitter account.

“I never really thought I would be making a video like this. It’s been a lot of fun working together, getting to know you, you’ve helped me out so much through this experience and it’s going to be very different without you on set and even off set. But yeah, I just wanted to kind of say thank you. And I know you’re only gonna do bigger and better things from here, so I just wish you the best of luck, even though you don’t really need it. But yeah, good luck. Bye bud.”
Nacon, who plays orphaned survivor Enid, joined the long-running series in its fifth season in 2015.
Series veteran Chandler Riggs, who has played Carl Grimes since The Walking Dead‘s 2010 pilot, will depart the show with Sunday’s mid-season premiere, “Honor.” The episode is a tearful sendoff for Carl and Riggs, ending the actor’s eight-year tenure with the show.
Speaking to EW ahead of season 8’s October debut, the 18-year-old actress promised more hope in The Walking Dead‘s future.
Acknowledging the show is “still going to be sad,” Nacon said “there’s a lot more courage and hope” on the horizon for Rick Grimes and company.
“They’re going to war, but I feel like there’s a lot more courage and a lot more hope that shows up in each character,” Nacon said. “They’re wanting to win this. They’re wanting to get over this, and I feel like each character is stronger in a way this season.”
As Carl’s journey comes to its end, 18-year-old Riggs has come to terms with his Walking Dead exit.
“I’ve actually loved my time on the show, I don’t regret any of it ever,” Riggs told ComicBook.com. “It was definitely the best experience that I could ever ask for. I’m okay with being off the show, it was definitely an experience that I’ll never forget.”
The Walking Dead returns to AMC with its mid-season premiere Sunday, February 25 at 9/8c.
