In the aftermath of the Kingdom being raided by the Saviors in the Mid-Season finale, Ezekiel is being held captive by Gavin and his faction of the Saviors. “Negan’s gonna kill you, now,” Gavin tells him with regret in his voice. “I said, he’s going to kill you. There’s nothing I can do to stop that. Hey! You hear me?”

Ezekiel had been ignoring Gavin’s attempts at threatening Ezekiel in hopes of getting some sort of response from the Kingdom’s leader. “I’ve ferried my people to freedom,” Ezekiel tells him with a clear conscience. “What befalls me now matters not.”

“No, it matters, idiot!” Gavin insists. “I liked you Ezekiel! You got it. You got that you couldn’t do better than you had it. You accepted things for what they were and you didn’t get any big ideas in your head. Then, Rick went and planted one right in there and here we are. And you’re gonna die.”

Of course, Ezekiel is so happy to have rescued his people from the Savior raid on their community, he is not bothered by Gavin’s remarks. Instead, he might be getting the upper hand in his wise word choice in an attempt to reason with Negan’s glorified henchman. “I made a choice I can live with,” Ezekiel says. “Now, it’s your turn to do the same.”
