There is still a handful of months between fans of The Walking Dead and a new episode which will reunite them with the beloved survivors of the zombie apocalypse. Before that, though, those fans will be treated to their annual trailer premiere at San Diego Comic Con, offering the first looks at new episodes.

While the Season 7 trailer was forced to maintain the major mysteries presented in the Season 6 finale’s “Who did Negan kill?” ending, it managed to get the thousands of fans packed into the San Diego Convention Center’s Hall H to erupt in excitement. Can the Season 8 trailer top that?

While Jesus actor Tom Payne is quick to promise some of the “best episodes” of the series in the beginning of Season 8, he doesn’t want the trailer to reveal the new content and ruin the surprises when it comes to trying to top Season 7’s trailer. Watch ComicBook.com’s interview with Payne at Walker Stalker Con at the top of the page, or read the details below!

“I kind of hope not because there is stuff like this sequence that was shot last week that I don’t want the audience to know about until it happens in the show,” Payne said. It’s a surprise and you’re like, ‘Whoa, that’s gonna happen!’ I don’t know, so I think the comic con trailer is a tough one because you don’t want to give away the cool stuff that’s coming. So, I think they’ve got a bit of a job on their hands cutting it together.”

“Last year, there was that car chase sequence which actually didn’t end up being in [Season 7],” Payne said. “And that was a sequence that was shot but it didn’t make it into the episode so maybe it’ll be that and we’ll put it out at Comic Con.”

Other Teases

Payne is not the only actor building hype for the Season 8 trailer.

Ross Marquand stopped by the ComicBook.com studio during his trip to Nashville for Walker Stalker Con, where he spilled his excitement for the upcoming episodes and how they will translate into an epic first look at Season 8.

“I think, I mean, for as cool as the tiger is, we all love Shiva, but I think what we’ve got to show here in Season 8 is going to trump everything that we’ve ever done on the show by far,” Marquand said.

“I really can’t say much, but I will say that again I think it’s going to be, I think with what we’re capturing so far I think it’s going to be the best season so far of the show. I think it’s so, so well crafted.”
