Major spoilers for The Walking Dead issue #170 follow.
As Michonne’s group ventured north of the Safe-Zone, they called it a night in a major city. Unlike the early days of the apocalypse, the city streets had been cleared of undead threats as the reanimated stumbled out of town in various directions over the years. The group took shelter on a rooftop, a location Michonne deemed to be the “safest” stop on their journey to Ohio.
While the threats from the undead may not be present at the moment, a threat from within the group presented itself when Siddiq revealed a certain detail which was a deep cut to Eugene.
“It’s Rosita…” Siddiq started. “She loved me.”
Prior to Rosita’s death, she had developed a romantic relationship with Eugene. Eugene accepted the fact that Rosita was pregnant with another man’s child, and he would do his best to act as the child’s father. Rosita, however, never revealed the identity of the baby’s father, possibly because she did not know who it was. The character had actively slept around in the community, often using the action as a move to earn the protection of those she had been sleeping with.
The immediate conclusion following Siddiq’s reveal is that he was the father of Rosita’s child, only fueled by the, “I’ve been feeling like this for months,” comment which preceded the more specific reveal.
Furthermore, Siddiq may have been with Rosita while she was involved with Eugene. His reveal will likely be followed by a more detailed recap of his time with Rosita, including whether he was to be the father of her child had it been born.
The Walking Dead issue #170 is on shelves now. Issue #171, which will further detail the circumstances of Siddiq’s reveal to Eugene, will hit shelves on September 6th.
Applied To TV
The events of The Walking Dead #171 will take years to make their way to the popular AMC series should the TV show continue to accurately adapt the events of the comics.ย
With Rosita and Eugene still alive on the TV series, it is not unlikely the two characters will develop a romantic relationship in the years which follow the war against Negan and the Saviors as they did in the comics. Siddiq, however, has not yet been introduced.
The Season 8 trailer for The Walking Dead,ย however, introduced a new face to the mix which many suspect to be the TV version of the comic book character.
Eugene and Rosita have an undeniable connection on the AMCย series with Josh McDermitt and Christian Serratosย playing the parts with brilliant chemistry. Subtle moments between the two have teased such a relationship blooming down the line, however, Eugene’s defection to Neganย during the times of war is something unique to the television series. In order for the character to become involved with Rosita (or anyone in Alexandria, for that matter), he would have to seek redemption in a major way.
