David Morrisey’s acting career is much more alive than the Governor. The Walking Dead alum has found his next role and it’s coming in the form of Amazon and Sky’s Britannia series.

Morrissey joins Kelly Reilly, Zoe Wanamaker (Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone) and Stanley Weber (Outlander) in the Jez Butterworth written series. Vertigo Films will produce the series as a 10-part event drama, in association with Penny Dreadful‘s Neal Street Productions.
Set in 43 A.D., the story will follow the Roman invasion of what would later become Great Britain. The determined Roman Imperial Army returns to crush the Celtic heart of Britannia, a mysterious landed ruled by warrior woman and powerful druids who can summon the forces of the underworld.
Reilly and Wanamaker will play archrivals Kerra and Antedia. The two have to put their differences on hold for the defense of their home, which is under an invasion lead by Morrissey’s Aulus Plautius. The three are also joined by Hugo Speer, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Stanley Weber, Eleanor Worthington-Cox and Ian McDiarmid and will shoot in Prague and Wales.
Britannia will air on Sky 1 in the UK and Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. in 2017.
