If the work week has felt like a baseball bat to the head, at least you’re not Chandler Riggs, Ross Marquand, Josh McDermitt, Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Sonequa Martin-Green or Christian Serratos on the first days of production for The Walking Dead’s Season 7. They literally had to take a baseball bat to the head.

A new video which has surfaced online showcases each of the brutal deaths the core characters on the AMC series received during the dream sequence Rick experienced. The brutal Season 7 premiere saw Abraham and Glenn killed off but featured shots of each character getting the bat to the head. Some have claimed the extra kills were an attempt to mislead the people on set from being able to spoil the true kills ahead of the episode’s airing but each briefly made the cut of the episode.

In the slow-mo shots featured above, the prop Lucille bats’ bloody effects can be seen. Visual effects expert and executive producer Greg Nicotero equipped the bat with blood bags which would burst upon impact, to truly sell the brutality being showcased in the premiere episode.

Following the episode, the series came under criticism from some viewers for going too far with the violence. The series went as far as using less violent takes of Fat Joey’s death in the midseason finale which aired eight weeks after the premiere. Since, the producers have responded to these comments, promising they are not altering their approach to violence.
