The Walking Dead: Is This Where Lucille Got Her Name?

Negan's The Walking Dead origin story has been unraveling in a 12-part 48-page story called Here's Negan which started being released in 4-page monthly increments back in April. Spoilers for the villain's back story follow as we speculate about where his beloved weapon of choice Lucille got her name.

The first three issues of Here's Negan made huge reveals regarding the characters pre-apocalyptic history. An aggressive gym teacher, Negan was hungry for the approval his students. More importantly, he was married, though the marriage wasn't exactly working out for a number of reasons: A) Negan was having an affair and B) his wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Just as the last bits of life seemed to be fading from Negan's wife, the world began to end. People tried to rush Negan out of the hospital but he refused to leave his wife's side as his heart broke at the thought of losing her.

So far, Negan's wife's name has not been revealed. Whether or not it will be is to be seen in the nine remaining issues of Here's Negan. The popular theory, though, is Negan's wife's name being Lucille. Remember, Negan treats Lucille like a lady and after seeing his regret over having an affair and wish to keep his wife around when she got sick, Lucille could be a tribute. In a twisted type of way, Negan may have seen a reason to name the bat which he uses to make his points and crack skulls after his wife.

The next issue of Here's Negan will be released with July's issue of the Image+ preview magazine.
