In October, Supernatural fans were probably a bit stunned when they saw Jeffrey Dean Morgan return to television in a bloody swath. The actor, who once starred on The CW series, made a memorable comeback during the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead as Negan. Now, the actor has now become a household name amongst millions of television fans, but Supernatural followers still remember when the actor played John Winchester on the show.
And, now, one of the executive producers from Supernatural is commenting on whether Morgan is free to return after his Walking Dead stint ends.

In a recent interview with TV Line, Andrew Dabb said Supernatural would love to welcome back Morgan if he has the time.
"I don't really worry about that because by the time he comes back, I'm sure [Supernatural] will have been on for 20 seasons at that point, and The Walking Dead will be long over," he said. "Jeffrey's an amazing actor… He plays such a great bad guy. But at the same time… if you give him really good material, he can go back to being someone we know and love and someone we can empathize with."
"I have full faith in him as an actor," he continued, "and I'm excited to see [him return as John] if it ever comes to pass."
For now, there's no word on when Negan might finish his tenure on The Walking Dead. The actor confirmed he would return to the series for Season 8, but he may have time to film a cameo or two for Supernatural if he has time. It would be a chance for Morgan to revisit another one of his dark, complex roles from the past - just don't expect him to be quite so brutal as Negan.
"John would not win Father of the Year," Dabb noted. "He was a guy who was haunted by his own demons."
Earlier this week, Morgan even commented on his time with Supernatural and answered whether he would choose the role of John Winchester over Negan. "I'm no longer in the Supernatural world as John Winchester," he said, "but I am living large in The Walking Dead world as Negan. And I am quite happy where I am right now."

Right now, Supernatural fans will just have to suffice without having the Winchester's patriarch onboard. This season, Dean and Sam recently saw the return of one of the Winchester when their mother Mary was revived.
