On the following slides we run through the five best moments The Walking Dead has had to offer in 2016 which means full spoilers are eligible.
The Rally
The midseason 6 premiere in February of 2016, No Way Out, was the first time which made walkers feel like a threat in a long time. For a while, humans were the scariest part of the show, and they certainly are again, but when Rick, Carl, Jessie, Michonne, and others had to attempt sneaking through the crowd of undead, we knew things were going to go bad.ย
First, we lost Sam and Jessie, but then we lost Carl’s eye in one of the most iconic comic book moments realized on television.ย
It was the moments which followed which really stole the show, though. All of Alexandria was forced to come together for the first time, creating an epic montage of zombie kills with Rick Grimes leading the charge.

The Raid
Before Season 6 came to a close, the group’s attention was turned to Negan and his Saviors after being introduced to the Hilltop. Rick’s overconfidence lead him to believe he could take on any threat presented to him.
For a moment, it appeared he wourld be right.
Rick took his group to one of Negan’s outposts and took out an entire hideout. In an action-packed episode, Rick, Daryl, Abraham, Glenn, Heath, Tara, Father Gabriel, Jesus and Michonne took it to the Saviors. The unloaded shotguns, machine guns, knives, and all types of fury on the group which had been bullying the Hilltop.
Even Father Gabriel put a bullet in somebody. Glenn chalked up his first human kill, alongside Heath. Jesus went full-ninja mode. It was great.
The raid on the Saviors compound was one of the most epic moments of Season 6.

The Kills
Negan’s introductory cliffhanger was one of the most controversial moments in television history. The fanbase was instantly divided. Some viewers loved the drama it created for the off-season while others swore they were done with the show after not being shown Negan’s victim’s identity.
The cliffhanger itself doesn’t make the list of best moments but what came afterย certainly does.
Negan unleashed Lucille on Abraham Ford to start off the killing but it wouldn’t end there. After Daryl Dixon punched him in the face, Negan decided he would unleash havoc on Glenn’s skull for the most infamous moment in Robert Kirkman’s comics to be adapted to television.
It was one of the most brutal and horrifying moments in television history. More importantly, an all new tone was set for the remaining 2016 episodes.

The Song
Late in Season 7, Carl Grimes’ eye scar was revealed for the first time. The child of the apocalypse wore a patch over the horrific damage to his face until Negan forced him to take it off.
Of course, Carl did sort of deserve to be punished after gunning down a few of Negan’s men, so unveiling his eye for the first time seemed like getting off easy. It was the song which followed which made our list, though.
Negan stood by swinging Lucille around as Carl sang, “You Are My Sunshine.” Our hearts went out to the little Grimes boy as he was humiliated and manipulated but, really, he should have just stayed in the house this time.

The Hug
The ultimate arc of Season 7’s first half was realized in the closing moments of The Walking Dead‘s 2016 run.
After weeks of being bullied and oppressed by Negan, accepting it all along the way, Rick and the group finalyl reunited and showed the first signs of planning to rise up against the Saviors. For the first time since the Season 7 premiere, Maggie, Glenn, and Daryl were together again.
Almost more importantly, Rick got his gun back.
However, it was the hug between Rick and Daryl which really stole our hearts. The brothers were finally back together and The Walking Dead fans couldn’t possibly be happier about it heading into the new year.
