Sunday night’s Season 3 finale of Fear the Walking Dead may have taken the first steps towards crossing paths with a character from The Walking Dead.

The popular theory for the upcoming crossover promised by creator Robert Kirkman at New York Comic Con is that Michael Cudlitz will reprise his role as Abraham Ford on The Walking Dead‘s sibling series. “There is one character that is going to go from one show, that I will not name, to another show, that I will not name,” Kirkman said. “This is a huge event in the world of The Walking Dead.”

With no official word regarding which character will appear on which show, Abraham appears to fit the bill better than any other, especially after Sunday’s Fear finale.

Abraham Ford revealed on The Walking Dead that he had spent the early days of the apocalypse surviving in a grocery store in Houston, Texas with his wife Ellen, son AJ, and daughter Becca, until they would run from him in terror having witnessed the murder of threatening men. Shortly thereafter, Abraham would find their bodies and be on the brink of suicide just as he found Eugene Porter who gave him a new purpose, setting Big Red on a journey from Houston, Texas to Washington D.C..

In Fear the Walking Dead, several characters were suddenly making references to Houston, Texas. For example, Alicia Clark (who may or may not be dead heading into the new season) overheard Proctor John speaking highly of Houston. The character wanted to bring his group to the fourth largest city in the country because it was one of very few locations to have its own independent power grid — meaning there would still be operation buildings and homes unlike the rest of the world when the dead took over.

With Broke Jaw Ranch burnt to the ground and the dam officially obliterated in the final moments of Fear the Walking Dead‘s third season, the group is desperate to find a new home.

Furthermore, Qaletaca was last seen with his buddy Mad Dog setting out “north.”

With the group currently at the Mexican-American border and an inevitable-as-always reunion set to take place in Season 4, north might just mean Houston and a crossing of paths with The Walking Dead‘s Abraham Ford.

“Are we going to see an interesting backstory of a Walking Dead character showing up in Fear the Walking Dead?” Kirkman added at New York Comic Con, with the tease fitting the bill of Abraham’s debut.

“I think it’s a good thing for the show,” Fear the Walking Dead showrunner Dave Erickson told Comicbook.com. “I think it’s something that’s going to hopefully galvanize both our modest fanbase and then the much larger Walking Dead fanbase. We’ll see what they do. It’s interesting because we’d always assumed just because of geography, because of timeline… You can pull anything off but I’m curious to see how they do it.”

Fear the Walking Dead will return for its fourth season with new showrunners and The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple in place as an executive producer in 2018. The Walking Dead premieres its eighth episode on October 22 at 9 pm ET on AMC.
