The night before The Walking Dead's mid-season finale, AMC is cryptically teasing what is promised to be an "epic" and "shocking" episode.

The Walking Dead is notorious for killing characters in its biggest episodes — often season premieres, mid-season finales, mid-season premieres and season finales — and AMC openly telling viewers to tune in for a shocking development could mean a major character is about to bite it.

Or be bit, as the teaser image displays a bloody bite mark.

The odds are against longtime survivor Carl Grimes making it into season 8B alive, as Carl may have gotten bit while giving an assist to new ally Siddiq. Carl sought the lone traveler out after a brief encounter in 8x01, eventually coming across Siddiq setting walker traps in the woods.

Siddiq, who has killed over 200 walkers, says he does it to "free their souls" — an undertaking done in honor of his mother and her beliefs. Carl and Siddiq were overwhelmed in an attempt to put down some nearby walkers, and Carl seemingly walked away unscathed — but that may not be the case.

With the super-sized mid-season finale bringing together all of the plots of this first half of season 8, almost anyone is on the chopping block. Carl was previously believed off-limits, but evidence is mounting that Chandler Riggs' time with the show really could be coming to an end.

Another potential candidate could be Father Gabriel, currently suffering from several infections, a fan-favorite character who gets taken hostage, or any of the major Alexandrians who will be forced to protect an Alexandria under siege by the Saviors and a vengeful Negan.

The Walking Dead's mid-season finale, "How It's Gotta Be," airs Sunday at 9/8c on AMC.
